DIY Toilet Bombs

Some people may initially feel overwhelmed thinking about having to make their own cleaner... especially those of us who would rather pay to have someone else do the work or might not feel "crafty" enough to be a DIYer. 😜 But I'm here to say that making your own cleaning supplies doesn't have to be overwhelming!! In fact, most recipes use about 2-5 ingredients (most of which are common household items like: baking soda, vinegar, hydrogen peroxide, etc.).

Many store bought cleaning products contain toxic chemicals that can: 🔹 mimic estrogen in the body and cause hormonal imbalance 🔹 cause respiratory irritation (ex. have you ever coughed when using Bleach?.... hint - respiratory irritant!!) 🔹 release volatile organic compounds (VOCs), making indoor air toxic

If nothing else... making your own household cleaners using Young Living's safe & plant based Thieves Household Cleaner, OR using common household ingredients in combination with YL Essential Oils allows you to have a cleaner environment, safer home, better air quality, you can make/refill anytime AND is less expensive. Sounds like a win win to me!

Here's my recipe for Toilet Bombs you're definitely going to want to try!

1 C baking soda

1/4 C citric acid

1/2 lid Thieves Household Cleaner

1 tsp hydrogen peroxide

25 drops essential oil (I recommend using a combination of Thieves, Peppermint and Lavender)

In a large glass bowl, whisk baking soda and citric acid together until blended. Very slowly, add sals suds, hydrogen peroxide and essential oils (mixing slowly as you go to ensure you don't activate the dry ingredients).

The mixture should be dry enough that you can mold it into balls, but wet enough that it doesn't fall apart.

Fill a silicone mold with cleaning mixture, or you can form small balls (about the size of golf balls) with your hands and place on a sheet pan lined with parchment paper to avoid sticking. (I recommend the silicone molds*)

Allow the toilet bombs to air dry, about 6-8 hours or overnight. Transfer to a glass jar and store in the bathroom. Use every 10-15 flushes to keep toilet clean, fresh & smelling great!

There you have it.... easy peasy!
